Accessing Allied Health Services with NDIS Funding

If you are a participant in the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), you may be able to access fully funded Allied Health services such as Exercise Physiology, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Pathology as part of your NDIS plan.

Here’s how to get started:

1. Check Your NDIS Plan

Look at your current plan to see if you have funding under:

  • Improved Daily Living (Capacity Building)

  • Improved Health and Wellbeing
These categories typically cover services provided by allied health professionals.

“NDIS Support Item Numbers for Allied Health”

When accessing allied health services via your NDIS plan, each session is billed using a specific support item number. These codes vary depending on your age, the type of therapy, and whether it’s early childhood intervention or general therapy.

Examples of item numbers (please see bottom of page for more extensive list of codes):

  • 15_609_0118_1_3 — Exercise Physiology (early childhood)
  • 15_200_0128_1_3 Exercise Physiology (over 9 years old and adult)
  • 15_617_0118_1_3 — Occupational Therapy (early childhood)
  • 15_617_0128_1_3 Occupational Therapy (over 9 years old and adult)
  • 15_622_0118_1_3 — Speech Pathology (early childhood)
  • 15_622_0128_1_3 Speech Pathology (over 9 years old and adult)

For some NDIS packages, there are additional items specific to each therapy type which are included on the list below.

What you should do:

  1. Check your NDIS plan to see which supports are included, call our team to discuss if you are unsure.

  2. Make sure your provider uses the correct item number when invoicing — we will confirm this with you.

  3. If your plan has changed, or your therapy needs shift, you can request inclusion of new therapy support items in your next plan review. Please discuss this with your allied health team, as they may need to provide assessments and reports to justify this for you.

2. Decide How You Want to Manage Your Funding

We accept clients who are:

  • Self-managed – you pay us directly and claim from the NDIS

  • Plan-managed – we invoice your plan manager

Let us know which type you are when you get in touch.

3. Contact Us for an Initial Consultation

We welcome you to give us a call as we offer a Free Introductory Session prior to your initial appointment at AWS – you can come down, see our wonderful facilities, meet the team and make sure we are a good fit for your needs!

Please call or complete your online self referral using the Referral button above!

Once you have your first appointment 1:1 with your therapist, we will get to know your goals, and discuss how we can support your progress. If needed, we can also provide assessments and reports to help with future plan reviews.

During your initial individual appointment, you will be provided with a Service Agreement outlining a plan for your appointments until your plan ends.

4. Start Your Therapy

Once your paperwork is sorted, you’ll begin regular sessions tailored to your individual needs — whether it’s improving mobility, communication, daily living skills, or overall wellbeing.

NDIS Item Numbers:

See below list of some of the NDIS Line Items that we can use for your therapy. This is not a complete list, there are other item numbers which also may be used in some NDIS Plan packages.

We can bill for services for the relevant allied health professional if it is included in your plan, and aligns with your goals.
